The 8 Reasons Why Tourists Love Macau

by - Saturday, August 12, 2017

1. It's just an hour away from Hong Kong. Assuming you'll be taking a day trip from Hong Kong, you can hop on a ferry that sails from Hong Kong round the clock. (we rode Turbojet, Economy class)

2. Macau was once a Portuguese territory. It was under Portugal until 1999. And it's amusing to see the captivating Chinese culture mixed with a heavy touch of European influence. Street signs written in both Chinese and Portuguese, buildings in pastel colors, mosaic tiles and cobblestone streets, it's like Europe meets the Orient. You will marvel at how their architecture feel like you're in Europe, not in Asia. And there's no better place to get that exact feeling other than in Senado Square! Take a look.

3. Be amazed by the dramatic water dance at Wynn Macau's Performance Lake. It runs from 11 in the morning until midnight. Hint! The light and water show is at its most visually stunning during the night. The illumination matches the dusky background making the overall performance nothing short of breathtaking. (Free Admission, of course!)

TIP: you may also watch the Tree of Prosperity and Dragon of Fortune performance inside Wynn Macau Resort and Hotel for free!

4. Shop your heart out. Aside from being a free port, meaning an area or port in which imported goods are processed duty-free, Macau also maintains a foreign investor-friendly environment. One can start shopping from Senado Square up to the high-end boutiques located inside Wynn Macau and The Venetian Macao for luxury fashion brands.

5. Visit a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ruins of Saint Paul's. Did you know that the Historic Centre of Macao which includes the Ruins of Saint Paul's (together with the Senado Square) is included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites? The Ruins of St. Paul's is a 17th-century Portuguese church that caught fire in 1835. The remaining facade was preserved by the government which has now become one of Macau's famous landmarks.

6. Experience LAS VEGAS in Asia!
Well, I won't encourage you to go gamble, but just in case you want to know how they do it in Las Vegas (sans the hefty airfare to the US) then going to casinos in Macau will be your safest 'bet'.

7. Relive BOYS OVER FLOWERS scenes at The Venetian Macao!
Now that we already have Venice Piazza in the Philippines, I know many people who ought to ditch Macau out their list. But hey, Lee Min Ho fanatics should know, GU JUN PYO WAS HERE, remember? ❤️

8. Experience the World's Highest Bungy Jump at Macau Tower
We weren't able to visit the Macau Tower due to time constraints but if ever you have ample time to explore Macau, don't forget to drop by the Macau Tower! They offer many interesting activities (Bungy Jump, SkyJump, and Skywalk), shopping, dining, and even a 3d cinema! Macau Tower Website

And that's it for my Macau trip! It may not be as grand as its neighboring countries but Macau is indeed a revelation. After visiting Macau, the more I felt the need to see Las Vegas, the real deal, in the flesh!
