FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt'r Foundation. Is it Worth The Hype?

FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt'r Foundation Review
Unless you've been living under the rock, we all know how our @badgalriri surprised the beauty community with its much anticipated makeup line called "FENTY BEAUTY". After months of teasing, Rihanna finally dropped a 40-shade foundation right off the bat and the world went crazy!

I'm used to celebrities "rebranding products" or collaborating with beauty companies (Japanese celebs usually sell contact lenses under their name) so at first I wasn't really excited about it, really. I'll be talking more about this later but boy, Rihanna ain't playing!

Shades Selection (⭐️4)
If you've read my DERMACOL review, you'd know that I don't purchase pricey foundations almost immediately. I'd read and watch tons of reviews first, ask friends of their experience, and if possible--I'd get samples! Luckily, I was able to score a couple of shades for medium skin tone. For reference, I'm currently tanned and around NC35-40 and oily.

I got shades 220 (warm peach), 240 (warm), and 290 (neutral olive) the darkest among the three.

Fenty 290 - close to NC37-40. In the container, 290 looks almost identical to 240 except the latter leans more on the warmer side and 290 is tad bit bronzier and darker. I overswatched 290 that's why the color payoff looks bolder than the rest of the swatches.

Fenty 240 - close to NC30, NC35, and even NC37 (according to Temptalia Foundation Matrix). This is exactly my match! I knew it when I applied it on my cheek down to my jaw and the foundation just blend with my skin effortlessly. It's rather shocking (in a satisfying way) because I've never seen anything like that because I always buy foundies in lighter shades.

Fenty 220 - close to MAC N4 (recommended for medium skin with peachy undertones), Fenty 240 would've been my best bet if I'm not oily so I jumped to 220. The only drawback about 220 would be its peachy undertone. I'd still wear it though I have to tone down the peachiness.

(From Left to Right: 220, 240, 290) 240 and 290 look almost identical in person, believe me.

What shade should you get?
This Testing FENTY BEAUTY + Foundation Swatches (video) from Youtube together with Temptalia Foundation Matrix have been very useful in telling what shades to get.

Texture and Consistency (⭐️5)
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation stays true to its promise. It feels like second skin. Think airbrushed! It's liquidy but not runny. I'd put some on the back of my hand and touch my phone or do other little things and not worry.

The texture is definitely not thick but it's not something that would easily spill off either. It's not tacky. It's beyond any doubt lightweight and I don't feel like my skin is choking on too much 'filler' materials just to have that coverage. You'd really know when something is made of superior formula because everything starts from its great consistency up to its performance.

Coverage and Finish (⭐️5)
Surprisingly, my skin's been looking awesome lately except that it's still super oily, my pores are still huge, and my dark circles are darker than ever; and all these are easily covered by Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. My dark circles would still peak through but it's not something any concealer can't correct.

According to my friends with acne-prone skin, the foundation is essentially buildable but due to its quick-to-set feature, people with dry skin and flaky acne-prone skin might not benefit a lot from this foundation. If you're not quick enough chances are the foundation will cake. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r really sets quickly so remember to work fast! It dries semi-matte, super flawless without looking flat. Once it sets, it kinda feels powdery which I really love. If you're not overly oily then you might not need to lock the foundation with powder. Beat that!

Longevity (⭐️3)
Honestly, this is the part I'm disappointed the most but I won't put all the blame to the foundation since it wasn't marketed to focus on oily skin. It oxidizes (like crazy) as early as 4-5 hours and turns a couple shades darker on me and on most people too (as seen on some videos in Youtube) and also on some friends I asked for opinions.

Again, I'm probably still half to blame since I didn't get their Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Primer plus I also do not use primers in general, I was also in a humid country (Manila) during the trial period. For reference I usually use multipurpose sunscreens, ones that act both as a sunblock and moisturizer instead of primers as my makeup barrier. I believe that's more practical but I'm also thinking of finally trying out makeup primers so we'll see.

So what's with company and celebrity collabs?
It's no new thing that beauty companies work with celebrities to launch new brands. They do it everywhere and it's totally fine. Remember the lip kits? Some would call it 'rebranding', same company, same product, different name and branding; While others would really come up with new formulations, new products, different name and branding but under the same company. Some mother companies would build smaller companies that produce sister brands and products, etc.

Interestingly, I've made it a personal mission to always check for dupes of high-end brands. Always. Well, it started when I was eyeing for a Chanel foundation, I loved Chanel but it's obviously costly for personal use so I looked for dupes. There I found blogs and reviews about brands and their sister brands and/or their parent company. For example, Estee Lauder group of companies own Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, BECCA, Tom Ford Beauty, Too Faced, and MAC cosmetics.

I'm not saying that their products are all the same but the fact that they're under the same company goes to show that they have (somehow) the same objective and vision in creating these quality products and that they won't risk their name and reputation. I hope I make sense? So going back to FENTY BEAUTY.

Kendo, according to their website is a brand incubator that creates, acquires, and collaborates with beauty powerhouses. Kendo partnered with Rihanna to create FENTY BEAUTY. Also, Kendo is the same company behind our favorite makeup brands KAT VON D and MARC JACOBS BEAUTY!!!

Save or Splurge: Should you buy or not?
I do not regret trying it and I firmly believe that for the coverage and finish you're getting, Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Foundation is really worth its hefty price tag. But will I buy the full size bottle? I think it's too early to come down with an answer as I only started using it for less than a month now. But being oily, I really depend a lot on a foundation rather than a mattifying primer to keep the oil at bay. If the foundation can't do the job then it's prolly not for my skin.

Splurge: Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation P2,300 (for coverage, longevity, finish) and Chanel Perfection Lumiere (lightweight, coverage, finish). I haven't tried Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet but I believe it can also do the job.

Save: Revlon Colorstay for Oily Combination P800+ (for coverage, longevity) and KATE Tokyo Powderless Foundation P1,200 (for natural look, powder effect).
